Repiping & Rough-in Piping, Petaluma

Along with repiping, Milano Mechanical is also skilled in rough-in piping. Put simply, rough-in piping is the basic infrastructure of the plumbing system, which consists of the pipes. Rough-in plumbing just means that the pipes have all been put into place and connected to each other and to the water system. Sinks, showers, tubs, toilets, and other fixtures have not yet been installed in the rough-in phase, and the walls have not yet been covered with drywall or other materials.

What Are the Benefits of Repiping?

One of the major benefits of repiping your Petaluma home is that you’ll save money. Although you’ll have some upfront expenses when you decide to have repiping done, you’ll enjoy long-term savings because you’ll minimize the likelihood of burst pipes and significant leaks, both of which can result in substantial repair costs. Additionally, the value of your property will increase if your plumbing is repiped, and it will be more appealing to prospective home buyers. You will also enjoy cleaner water and increased hot water and water pressure. As an added bonus, other appliances such as washing machines and automatic dishwashers will perform better.

What Are the Signs That I Need Repiping?

There is a wide range of indications that it’s time to repipe your home plumbing. The one most homeowners notice first is that their water just doesn’t taste or smell right. The difference is often subtle to begin with and becomes progressively more noticeable as time goes by. The water may also start to become discolored, first appearing as a slight tinge and becoming darker. Other signs that your plumbing needs repiping include the following:

  • Your pipes are leaking
  • There are obvious signs of rust on your pipes
  • Your water pressure has decreased
  • Broken or cracked fittings
  • Green spots that can’t be removed by cleaning
  • Black spots caused by lead fittings in old plumbing systems
  • Strange noises such as banging and clanking coming from the pipes

What Is the Difference Between Copper & PEX Tubing?

The two most common types of plumbing pipe materials are copper and cross-linked polyethylene (PEX). Copper tubing is stronger, more durable, and more expensive than PEX tubing. However, depending on water chemistry, copper may be significantly more susceptible to corrosion than PEX, and older copper pipes may impart an unpleasantly metallic taste to drinking water.

PEX, and the other, is flexible, lightweight, and easier to install and repair. The downsides to PEX include an increased likelihood of water contamination and that they cannot be used outdoors because the material will break down under ultraviolet rays.
